More Than Childcare

Gentle Shepherd classes provide lessons, games, and activities designed to help boys and girls develop mentally, emotionally, and physically. Our teachers instill a sense of curiosity in children that help them progress from infancy to preschool and beyond.

Nursery

6 weeks to 12 months

Children in our Nursery class get the best possible care and attention to help them grow. Our teachers spend time cuddling them and also stimulating their mental and physical development with age-appropriate activities. When your infant isn’t getting rocked to sleep, they will enjoy plenty of tummy time and supported sitting. Our teachers will read them books while pointing out pictures and use toys to work on their hand/eye coordination. We also have a pull-up bar and mirror where your child can learn to stand, and once they master walking, they can explore the wonders of our outdoor play area.

Toddler 1

12 months to 24 months

The Toddler 1 class is full of learning disguised as play. In this class, children love singing and dancing to music, exploring colors and shapes, and listening to stories. They even practice skills to help prepare them for preschool, such as reciting the alphabet and counting to 10. Our teachers encourage gross motor skill development through dynamic play with dolls, blocks, puzzles, toy kitchen sets, and more. Your child will also enjoy plenty of fresh air in our outdoor play area before relaxing at nap time.

Toddler 2

2 to 3 years

When your child enters the Toddler 2 class, Gentle Shepherd teachers will start encouraging more independence. Your son or daughter will learn practical skills like washing their hands, picking up toys, and performing other small tasks. Our teachers can even start potty training if requested. During this class, your child will also have plenty of time for creative activities like coloring, painting, and making crafts in addition to indoor and outdoor play. Plus, they’ll even get to experiment with magnets and enjoy other science-related games. In group time, your child will participate in teacher-led discussions, songs, and finger plays. They will practice their letters and numbers, as well.

Preschool

4 to 5 years

Preschool is all about fostering creativity and curiosity. In this class, your child will dance and sing with their friends and enjoy teacher-led art and science activities. They will have ample opportunities to draw, paint, and color, and they will start using safety scissors for cutting projects. They will also have time for free play to explore our learning center on their own and further develop their independence. During group time, your preschool child will participate in discussions about the weather and learn the months and days of the week. They will talk about cultural diversity, as well, and discover that differences are beautiful.

School Age

6 to 12 years

School-aged children receive homework assistance in this class as well as an after-school snack. They also participate in fun and educational group activities, including singing, dancing, and dramatic play. Our rooms are also full of age-appropriate toys so your child will have fun with blocks, dolls, books, puzzles, and art supplies. Plus, they’ll get to run and climb in our outside play area, developing gross motor skills and making childhood memories.

Non-Traditional Instruction Assistance

School-aged children

We know you’re stressed about your child’s virtual learning, but don’t worry. We can help. Sign your son or daughter up for Non-Traditional Instruction assistance. Your little one will have their own space in our Activity Room, where they can participate in online classes with supervision and guidance from our workers. Gentle Shepherd staff won’t take the place of your child’s regular teachers. Still, we can provide educational support so your child can succeed in virtual learning, and you can focus on your own work.

Each student needs to bring their own laptop. Tutoring costs are added to current daycare fees and amount to $5/day for ages 5-8 and $10/day for ages 8-12. Simply sign up for the program when you enroll your child in daycare.
